Background

Inspiration for the Jegrelius Institution comes from the late chemical engineer and industrialist Gunnar Jegrelius, who was a pioneer in the field of environmentally-sound product development.

Continual development work, combined with good knowledge of chemicals and their effects on health and the environment, meant that Gunnar succeeded in staying a step ahead of legislation and public opinion, which made his products market leaders. The recipes for his environmentally-friendly cleaning agents are still used today.

Gunnar Jegrelius left an archive with 6 million documents on hazardous substances and potential substitutes for these. This archive is now accessible and is owned by Jegrelius. Read more under "Jegrelius Archive".

Activities are now carried out in Gunnar Jegrelius' spirit. The area of environmental technology known as Non-toxic Environment, with production, profiling and sales of products that are free of hazardous substances, is now an innovation area for Jämtland and the region's companies.

There are a number of cutting edge companies in the Jämtland/Västernorrland region in various industries, such as outdoor products or cleaning agents. Increased support for these companies and for entrepreneurs with new innovations thereby offers great potential, and an opportunity for environmentally-driven regional growth and development in Jämtland.
